Education has always been one of the most researched areas in the Philippines particularly because of its huge role in Philippine development. This issue of the Development ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ News tackles some of the problems hounding the Philippine basic education sector. It examines the various demand-side factors that hinder children from attending and completing primary school as well as maximizing their learning when they are in school. The issue of non-attendance and dropping out are just a few of the problems the Philippines is pressed to address in order to comply with the United Nations` Millennium Development Goal of achieving universal primary education by 2015.
