In this study, the researchers want to examine more deeply the state of competition in three sectors—mass media, financial, and utility—using network analysis to supplement more traditional approaches of analyzing competition. Traditional measures of concentration like HHI do not adequately capture the degree of concentration if they do not account for any connections between competitors. They are also interested in understanding corporate influence by looking at the role of these companies within broader economic networks. With the business interests of some mass media companies extending beyond the media sector (see Serafica and Oren, 2024) and with the financial sector’s wide reach in other sectors (see Tabuga et al, 2024), this study aims to broaden the boundary of the network of interest to understand the roles of these two sectors within the network. We added the utilities sector to the analysis because of the crucial role that it plays in the economic development of the country.
